“Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakes – Carl Jung”
Dimethyltryptamine or DMT is a class A psychadelic compound which is naturally found in the human body as well as most plants and animals. It is made into a powder like substance which is smoked for full effect, it is also the active ingredient in Ayahuasca – humans produce it when they sleep and its purpose is unknown.
Mainstream interest has gathered momentum after the 2010 documentary DMT:The spirit molecule, which is on netflix or YouTube.
Once smoked a DMT trip or journey can last anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, the user will experience a very intense hallucinations and everybodys experience is different. It is thought that DMT is produced in the pineal gland (third eye) which begs the question why would we have an extremely strong psychedelic substance being created in our brain? Unfortunately research on the drug stopped in in the 60’s after psychedelics became illegal so that question can’t be answered. Yet.
DMT binds to serotonin receptors in a similar way to psilocin does, this causes neurons that would normally be triggered by serotonin to fire even when no serotonin is present. It is recommended that you only journey with someone who has is experienced to hold the space.
